The Patron Saint Festivities in Pedraza, bulls, concert of the Candles ...
Pedraza celebrates its festivities in honor of its patron saint, the Virgen del Carrascal, on the 1st fortnight of September.
On the 8th the procession with the image takes place through the streets of the town. The men dance jotas in front of the Virgin's litter and before entering the church again, the “stick auction” takes place, the neighbors bidding for the honor of entering the image on their shoulders. On the 9th, the running of the bulls takes place, one of the most picturesque spectacles, since the bulls are brought from the Dehesa de la Villa across the country with halters and mayorales on horseback, leading the herd with poles. On the 9th and 10th, novilladas are celebrated with the cattle that went up to the Villa in the running of the bulls on the morning of the 9th.
Since 1550 the bulls are in Pedraza an obligatory complement to religious celebrations, closing the plaza and Calle Real with carts and talanqueras; it can be seen in the corners of the intersections stone posts with the holes where the planks were fitted. Due to its special configuration, the Plaza de Pedraza is one of the most picturesque settings for bullfighting celebrations. On the 12th and as the end of the festivities, the caldereta is made in the Plaza Mayor in which the entire town participates.
Dulzainas Contest Every summer the best dulzaineros in Castilla y León meet in the Plaza Mayor. Organized by the Villa de Pedraza Foundation.
