The important work carried out since its creation by the Prodestur laboratory of the Diputación de Segovia in the field of analysis has led to the work of its technicians being valued and taken into account, both in the province and outside it, in different forums linked to the daily activity of it.
For this reason, the laboratory of the provincial tourism agency has been represented at a meeting held this week in Pedrajas de San Esteban in which the delicate situation facing the stone sector has been addressed today and in which there have been cites both mayors and representatives of municipalities of the province of Valladolid, as members of the sector. Closed by the president of the Diputación de Valladolid, Conrado Íscar, the meeting dealt with the continued decrease in the production of the pinion, which, as stated by those present, could be due both to the plague of the processionary, which attacks the pine and goes gradually defoliating, like the pest of the pineapple bug, which feeds by sucking sap of the most tender pineapples, causing them to dry and preventing the reproduction of the pines.
These pests, as the interested parties warned, reduce production and, in the long term, could even cause the disappearance in the next two or three years of a sector on which many families in Castile and León depend. For this reason, the main conclusions reached during the meeting include the intention of creating an association that involves municipalities, private owners and parts of the stone sector, as well as the provincial councils of Segovia and Valladolid.
The main purpose is to revitalize the mountains and eliminate these pests, ensuring the survival of the sector, making it necessary, for this, that their producers and marketers can count on aid from regional as well as national and even European institutions.
